Nothing Popping

I have to admit it, I usually expect to be annoyed on the 4th of July. I have tinnitus and fireworks hurt my ears, so I'm not very keen on fire crackers--particularly the loud, booming kind. After the fireworks have died down at some festival, usually there are a host of other "local" events involving firecrackers that will go on into the wee hours of the morning and make it tough to fall asleep. Last night? Other than an occasional pop, it was pretty darn quiet.

I wondered if it was because the 4th fell on a Wednesday and people had to go to work the next day? I wondered if all the area laws about  where and when you can use fireworks confused the heck out of people and they figured, why chance it? I wondered if people were out of town on vacation? I wondered all kinds of things until my eyes closed and I got a really good night of sleep. It was the best 4th of July ever!
